Every year I get a request in the mail to fill out a market survey form from Williamson County; unit mix, # units, lease rate, # available, and a few other questions.  I usually fill them out (though I keep the numbers generic and don't give them everything they ask for) since they tend to get this info when I protest taxes anyway.  Anyone have any thoughts on this, pro or con?

I've ignored them and it doesn't matter.  I've filled them out and it doesn't matter.  The informal protest has been the best option most years for me.  My rule of thumb is if you think it will help your case or your protest then share it to try and get a lower value.  If you're crushing it and it's possible they can use it as ammo against an already good/low value then don't share.  Bottom line is you don't have to if you don't want to.

We don't fill it out. We are in Fort Bend County and been in business over 30 years. They threaten a fine if you don't fill it out but it's never happened. It's hard to want to help these people when they are not basing their numbers on reality anyway. We protest taxes as well so they can get the info that way.

I don’t fill them out. They go in the trash.
