  • 1.  Charging sales tax for auctions in TX

    I am setting up a profile at storageauction.com, and I can't seem to find an answer for if I am required to charge sales tax when selling an auctioned unit?
    I have the option to leave this at 0 or put in a number for this. Anyone know the answer to this? Much appreciated in advance.

    Hi Scott,

    I charge sales tax for my auctions. I believe that is the correct thing to do, thought I cannot site the resource where I found that many years ago.

    Step 12 of the regular foreclosure process (page 51 of the GoldBook) states that ""Collect sales tax. Whoever is conducting the sale must collect sales tax on the monies paid by the purchasers. This is the legal responsibility of the storage facility under the State Comptroller's sales tax rules."

    I did look in the gold book but didn't see it. I looked in the back under auctions or sales taxes or taxes but didn't think to look under the foreclosures topic.

    Anyway, got it added.
