We are having a problem with mice.  Talked to an exterminator but he said he can not do much unless he has access to every unit.  Has anyone had success doing something else.

    Hi Tommy,

We have several rodent bait stations around every building, near every door, and by outside air conditioning equipment. Those get checked and replenished regularly. Then, we put two packets of the bait in two corners of each unit. When someone moves out, we replace those packets. Our facility is right next to a large field so small field mice can be a nuisance if we don't stay on top of this.

Regularly maintaining bait stations is the critical first step. This serves two purposes, first it addresses the problem, second it sends a visible message we are addressing the potential for mice. At move in we review the list of prohibited items and pay special attention to food and flamables.

Many of the rodent problems we've encountered were self-inflicted by the tenant storing food. If a tenant brings a rodent problem to our attention, we acknowledge the concern and politely ask them to check for a food source in their unit. In one situation, the tenant who complained the loudest and seemed to be at the epicenter of the rodent activity realized the problem was created by the MREs she stored.
